Analytical solution to cavity expansion in strain-softening soils with Tesca yield criterion and its applications

Abstract: Based on conventional experiment results, a simplified constitutive model is given to simulate the strain-softening and shear dilating characters of soils. By using elastoplastic theory and volume-balance equation, an analytical solution to cavity expansion of saturated clays is established with Tresca yield criterion. The regularities of cavity expansion in saturated clays are analyzed under undrained condition. The results have practical significances for analyzing engineering problems such as static piling in clays.
